Project Description
The redevelopment of the former Maple Block Factory property into a multiple family apartment complex opens additional opportunities to expand the Bear River Corridor south of Sheridan Street all the way to Riverbend Park. This expansion would provide residents within that development and surrounding residential neighborhoods access to the waterfront and downtown. The initial phase includes design and budgeting estimating to position the City for grant funding.
Project Justification
The 2023-2027 Parks and Recreation Master Plan includes the following objective:
- Connect City parks and township, state and school district facilities through a regional greenway system.
- Continue the preservation of publicly-owned waterfront (Little Traverse Bay and Bear River) to ensure recreational enjoyment by future generations.
- Connect City parks with sidewalks and trials.
